Well, to continue my little obsession with Iron Man, I decided to draw a portrait of Tony Stark. This is when he has the arm of the suit on and he's watching the news about the villagers being forced to flee and hide from the Ten Rings terrorists. Actually, it's the same scene as the last pic I did of him, just from a different angle. You can see the anger in his expression more. I thought it was just a very compelling image (not to mention that Tony Stark is rather attractive ), so I had to paint my own version!
Anyway, this is the first portrait I've done in a long time. I'm discovering again how tiny changes in the lighting of the face can completely change the expression. Portraits are tough! Even though I was only copying a photograph (which I obtained from the Marvel website), I think it turned out pretty good. This image was created in Photoshop Elements, and it took between 2.5 and 3 hours to complete.
-- Edit: I figured out the proportions of his face were bothering me, so I fixed them. Now it looks more like him fo real!

You mean, did it take long? Well 2-3 hours is pretty long for me, but I think it was worth it. The Wacom tablet really speeds things up. As do photoshop hotkeys.
Argh. Something had been bugging me about this picture for a while, and now I realize what it is. I think the proportions are wrong on his face. Well, maybe I can put in some time tonight to fix that. Closeup looks fine and dandy, but looking at it from far away just doesn't look right.
That's what I get for just starting painting instead of doing a sketch first.
A collection of the most beautiful and amazing square photographs I found among my favourites. Please have a look and give these artists the attention they deserve!
